What is Auricular Therapy?
Auricular Therapy
is a technique for smoking cessation that was researched by
scientists at UCLA in the early 1950's. Researchers discovered
that by introducing a small and precise amount of stimulus
to the nerve endings on the exterior of the ear, smokers would
lose their desire to smoke, with little or no withdrawal symptoms.
During this period in the early 50's, smoking was quite popular,
therefore, this research had little significance and was discontinued.
This method of treatment was later introduced with an
extremely high success rate. Most other smoking cessation
techniques emphasize treatment of the psychological barriers
to quitting. The LCSCC approach, however, signifies a very
important breakthrough in contemporary treatments. LCSCC directly
treats nicotine addiction, which is one of the most severe
addictions known (and acknowledged as one of the hardest to
treat). Occasionally, a patient may need a retreatment. Once
retreated, the majority stay off nicotine for good.
